Bruxelles

It was freezing. We drank beer and ate waffles. Kieron tried all the strange oaky, smoky beers and really loved Gueuze which tasted like vomit, I kid you not look it up, while I stuck to good old Kriek and lager.

This city was my home for 9 months a few years back and even though I knew it was the same city it felt strange. Everything felt a bit different like looking at mirror images: almost there but not quite right. The fries were just as good as they were back then though, maybe even better.

Was nice to experience the city beyond the bars and clubs I used to visit religiously. Although Brussels is known for its comics, visiting the comic strip center I was more intrigued by the building itself. An art nouveau masterpiece that used to be a fabric shop. Unbelievable.

Every time I look at that ugly moon it reminds me of you

I wish I had more time to do things that I actually like doing but everything supposedly important keeps swallowing me up. We went to Bath over the weekend however. The air was perfectly crisp but the sun so low and harsh it was hard to get a decent picture. I managed. Bath was beautiful, it's quite a small city (yes it is a city because it has a cathedral, Bournemouth however is not a city because it doesn't have one even though it is larger, as was explained to us by our tour guide) resting in a valley surrounded by rolling hills on which stood the trunks and branches of naked trees. They created eerie silhouettes against the pink and blue sky. The houses were mainly built from this smooth yellow stone and the streets were narrow and crowded by the masses arriving to enjoy the Christmas markets. I could just about imagine Jane Austen sitting by a window watching the hills and the buildings and secretly hating it all, as she apparently did, and writing her books.

There is way too much work to be done but my mind is elsewhere. Mainly in the 3-day trip to Brussels commencing tomorrow and the flight home on the 17th. I have been slowly driving my flatmate insane by playing Christmas songs, we made a gingerbread house and I'm dreaming of snow in Finland and my mum's cooking.
